Colonel in the Reserves

In his spacious office in the factory
the armchairs are as soft as the rug.
He carries a tiresome, frustrated gaze
thinks: "how the hell did I get here?"
He squashes a cigarette butt
in the ashtray, an old artillery shell
and absentmindedly glimpses
at his photo with the uniform on the wall.
Colonel in the reserves
it hurts and even a bit embarrassing
but that's life
Colonel in the reserves.
He smiles towards the secretary with affection
checks her tight mini skirt
says: "Baby, do me a favour..."
only to be surprised by her apathy
He reads the Army's Magazine every week
He stays updated by reading the daily newspapers
But only when he calls Ran or Yehoshua
he realizes that he's out of business.

When he meets friends over coffee
he talks about his wages
but deep inside, his heart freezes
and gossip still cause him to quiver
slowly his memory begins to fade
but when someone refers to him as "Mister" he feels suffocated
and the title "in Reserves" hurts him
and he carries it like a stain or insult.
