A moment of silence

A moment of silence for leaves
That dropped in the middle of autumn,
And a moment of silence for words we’ve
Said, but were forgotten.
A moment of silence for flowers
That we haven’t noticed they fell,
And a moment of silence for the bird
That wanted to cross the road well.

A moment of silence for the lass,
That was in my dream in the night,
A moment of silence, alas,
For the meeting that didn’t turn out.
A moment of silence and quite,
For songs generally,
And for all of the love that just might
have been intended for me.

For the memory of colors that died
With me and my times
For that singular night
That left me no trace behind.
A moment of silence for spring
Which passed through, who knows when,
And a moment of silence for the missing
Who went but forgot to return.

And for all who remember
How once you have been by my side
For this night, at the present
When I’m alone, in your plain sight.
Moments of silence as well
For the painful which depart,
Listen to the my shout and the yell
That I have inside my heart.
